Sometimes Heroes Need Help, Too

This is the heart of what we do. When we accept a retired K-9 Hero into our program, we commit to paying their medical costs for the rest of their lives. It is the least we can do to pay them back for dedicating their lives to serving our country and communities. Each dog in our program has an average caretaking cost of $4,000 per year. We presently have a goal to add 52 dogs per year to our program. This estimate does not include costly emergency expenses that may and often do arise.

Large breed dogs often suffer from bloat, a deadly illness that will cost them their lives if not treated immediately. Fees for this type of surgery can be close to $10,000 per incident. Cancer treatments can cost thousands of dollars for a dog who needs supportive care in her final months. A gastric blockage surgery may cost upwards of $18,000. We don't know when these needs will come up, and we must be ready.

With your help, we can continue to admit 52 new Heroes to our program each year. We can shoulder the financial burdens so their families can focus on what matters most: providing these Heroes with a comfortable, loving, and dignified retirement. After all they have done for our country, they have earned it.
